Meister der Schwarzen Kunst

He is a master of the black art, and also a preserver of this both technical and artistic activity. His month-sheets are consistently hand-prints in a high-pressure process. Year after year Felix Riedel relates mainly self-rhymed fabulous stories, and convinces us with his witty illustrations.

The calendars, from 1972 till 2018, show his voluminous hand-press work. Riedel has set all the texts in lead type, and printed the pictures from self-cut linoleum plates. The monthly changing of the calendarium is also laborious, as it consists of of individual letters with different widths.

Each Riedel calendar is unique, masterfully designed by hand. After 47 years of taking part, the black artist is undoubtedly also the record-holder among the exhibitors at the Gregor Calendar Award.
