Jury comment:
The calendar of the evn collection shows photos of plants arranged on immaculate white pedestals, or worn-out chairs, stools or tables. Anna Jermolaewa has assembled the photographs as conceptional work. What do these magnificent blooms mean ? The viewers ask themselves this after a first look at the calendar, if they know the otherwise politically charged work of the artist, born in 1970 in Leningrad (today Saint Petersburg) and living in Vienna. In reality, what looks like decor in the photo-installations „The Penultimate“ are memories of overthrow, the struggle for freedom, political disputes.
Jermolaewa’s colorful arrangements on the month-sheets are connected with uprisings and political upheaval. Each of the plants shown symbolises a revolution.
